Ever lose your mojo? Have the wind go out of your sails: dead in the water? It happens to all of us. In the roller coaster of life, we have ups and downs. Sometimes, however, the down stays down too long. And when we’re there, it feels like we’ve always been there. Stuck in a hole, the bottom. It’s as if the universe decided to redecorate life with only shades of dark grey. A good buddy of mine, one of my first OG clients when I launched my coaching practice 10 years ago, lost his mojo. Through a series of unfortunate events, his life became kind of a cluster: divorce, selling the house, moving the business. No way around it: it sucks. It can be hard to stay optimistic when life’s challenges pile up all at once: we feel stuck, empty, depressed.
There is no light at the end of the tunnel. My buddy, he’s deep in his dissatisfaction-his suffering. I’ve been there, that’s for sure. What did it look like when you were there? One thing I can guarantee wasn’t there: vision. Vision is hope. Our vision of the future illuminates the path forward. With a clear, poignant vision, the mountains of dissatisfaction, the mountains of suffering, in our lives become molehills. The deep dissatisfaction and despondency that come from loss begins to lose its grip. Without vision, we lose that beginner’s mind and instead we are stuck in the loop of grieving what we had.

That’s when we lose sight of what we’re becoming: that when we lose our power. I recently spoke with him and I asked him a question. ‘With everything in your life changing,’ I said, ‘What’s it changing to? What’s your vision?” “That’s it,’ he exclaimed, ‘I don’t have vision. I’ve got to write it down.” In that moment, I could feel his energy shift. Something in his universe opened in that instant: a new sun began forming in the black infinity of empty space. There was light. That’s the first step. And, it’s not as simple as writing it down and the dissatisfaction and suffering are over, but it’s the first step in climbing out.
Know that you’re not just moving away from something, you’re moving toward something. There’s nothing more powerful than a compelling vision. A vision that you believe in, that’s so real you can taste it. A vision that you never take out of your sight begins to pull you: it creates its own gravity. Napolean Hill famously said – ‘Conceive, believe, achieve.’ It wasn’t his idea, but an idea that goes back to the beginning of human wisdom. If you can create a vision for yourself, and truly believe it, you can design it as real. The future is yours to create. So, to my buddy who is reading this now, through all of the pain and loss, here’s to who you are becoming. Become the snake, shedding it’s skin to live in the world anew. And for all the rest of us, remember, the world is ours for the making.
