Your style is your superpower—and your ceiling.
We all have our own distinct rhythm as we move through the world—a particular way we connect, communicate, and step into leadership. It’s that unique fingerprint that makes you, well, you. You’ve got your own flavor. Your own style.
Some of that style? It comes straight from the factory—how our brains are wired.
But then we start layering it. The patterns we pick up along the way. The roles we step into without even realizing it.
Maybe you became the responsible one—especially you first-borns who practically came out of the womb leading meetings.
Or maybe you’re the rebel, the status-quo challenger. (Middle children, I’m looking at you.)
These patterns shaped us. They’re our rocket fuel… and sometimes, our anchor.
Take me, for example.
My style? Textbook youngest child. The rules never really applied. I had freedom others didn’t, and when trouble loomed? I could charm my way through it.
Fast forward a few decades—now I’m a coach. That early ability to smooth things over? It’s gold in the middle of conflict. I can walk right into tension, say what needs to be said, and still keep the team intact.
But here’s the flip side: that same style means I sometimes crash into sensitive spots when it’s not helpful.
And that fierce independence I developed? Great for entrepreneurship. Not so great in a buttoned-up bank setting, where I spent almost a decade learning how to flex in new ways.
See, your style is both your superpower and your kryptonite. Mine definitely is.
So let me ask you:
Are you the one who drives results like a freight train—but leaves a little dust in your wake?
Or are you the connector—always building bridges, but avoiding the tough conversations?
Your natural style is powerful.
But left unchecked, it also becomes the ceiling on your growth.
If you want more—more impact, more fulfillment, stronger teams—then start by understanding your style. And from there? Learn to flex it. To meet the moment. To lead people in the way they need.
Because the real magic of leadership? It happens just beyond your default mode.
P.S. I’d love to hear how your birth order has shaped how you lead. Drop a comment or send a note—your story might be the spark someone else needs.
